Happy Lunar New Year to all of our little Tigers (and one little Rabbit) and their families!
We celebrated the moon's birthday and the Year of the Horse this week by enjoying some Zodiac-themed Yoga and opening our little red gift envelopes to find a tiny horse inside-- perhaps he can live in Weather Bear's box/bed!
All week we worked on our animal habitat charts. It was really fun to paint the water habitat with spray bottles of water on Tuesday and use scissors to cut paper grass on Thursday. On Friday we added some horses to the land habitat. Now that the charts are at home, we talked about how students and their families could draw animal pictures, tear animal pictures out of magazines, use stickers or even glue photographs of animals on to the habitat chart to keep the project going at home!
At one point during playtime we had an impromptu faux Chinese New Year parade in costumes!
We read all about what the real parade is like in NYC's Chinatown in these two great books:
If anyone's in the mood for smoky, loud and crowded… join in the festivities this Sunday in Chinatown when the parade kicks off at 1pm :)
Gung Ho Fat Choy!
