ALOHA and laissez les bon temps ruler!

It was nice to be back together this week after February break :)
I had a great trip going home to Honolulu and I brought back a couple of Hawaiian children's books and some yummy pineapple coconut candy… ONO! (Ono means yummy in Hawaiian)

Audrey is reading "This is my Piko," a book that includes a fun song to learn the parts of our body in Hawaiian, and Ollie and Milo are savoring their candies as snack time dessert!

Speaking of both dessert and gifts, Zadia's art show was a success and she used some of her earnings to purchase a play cookie set for our dramatic play area. Thank you Zadia!

We had a great time on Thursday with a sorting exercise that revisited the habitat categories of "Air, Land and Water," but this time with transportation vehicles instead of animals. Planes, trains, automobiles were matched with their correct settings on our transportation charts.

In Movement we enjoying our log rolls down the new incline mat, and we are all getting really good at hopscotch and the distinction between two feet jumping and one foot hopping.

While this chilly weather feels nothing like Louisiana, we've been trying to get into the Mardi Gras mood as our Fat Tuesday party is coming up next week! We enjoyed these books from my collection and learned about the traditions of Mardi Gras in New Orleans such as parades, specific foods, street cars, Zydeco music/brass bands/second lines, Mardi Gras Indians and more! We have a few tricks up our sleeve for Tuesday's family party and I have a surprise or two as well ;).

We made our own necklaces in the traditional colors of Purple, Green and Gold (Black has snuck in there since 2010 when the Saints won the Superbowl!).

We've also been working on a daily cumulative project "surprise" that we'll be bringing home at the end of next week. I've blurred it out here to keep the mystery intact, but know that the students have been doing a great job working on it.

Have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you at the Mardi Gras party… laissez les bon temps ruler!
