Balance Birds & Butterflies

Balance Birds came to school on Tuesday and perched on our elbows...

noses…

knees...

arms...

…and heads!

Miss Claire leads us in a birdie song too. Maybe these are the birdies we've been singing about all year!?!

This week we studied animal lifecyles, specifically frogs, ants and butterflies.

With the materials above, we laid out the 4 stage of these animals' lives:
egg, caterpillar, chrysalis (cocoon), butterfly
egg, larve, pupa, ant
egg, tadpole, froglet, frog

Here's Audrey with her frog chart:

We also learned about the letter Q, and how Q is different from all of the other letters in the alphabet because he is never alone and his buddy U follows him in every word. Here are some Qu words we thought of:

Thursday's Show & Share was really fun! The kids had fun guessing each other's rhyming pairs and then matching them back together :)

This week we also began to talk about pairs, sets of two. We referenced our bodies and also learned about the concept of symmetry. By painting only one wing of our butterfly puppets and then folding it over and patting it down, we shared paint on to the second wing creating two symmetical wing designs!

The finished butterflies look great!

As usual, the kids did a lot of moving and grooving this week and are getting fearless with their forward rolls!

Playtime! Check out this "farm aquarium":

Our building skills with Legos are amazing! Many thanks to Alec and Evan's parents for donating more to our set from the wish list.

Ollie said this is him at the beach:

Spiderboy came to visit us at school on Friday!

Next week will be all about ice cream and our upcoming field trip on Friday! :)
