Our 5 Senses

This week at school we learned about our 5 senses. We listened to several "guess that sound" audio tracks, and tried to guess some smells in the mystery boxes that I assembled as well. Ironically, the only one that they guessed dead on was the coffee! Several kids guessed cinnamon and ginger for pinecones, so I think we've certainly got some junior chefs and bakers in our class. No matter how close or far off our guesses were, we all agreed that cat treats stink-- yuck!

Our Yoga class this week focused on our sense of touch, and "magic rain" showered us in funny objects during our end-of-class relaxation. We then determined which ones were soft and which were scratchy and classified them on a binary chart.

We used our vision this week to identify complex shapes, and to make individual choices about color and shape in the creation of a beautiful art project! The project was made by using a 3-step decoupage process of "glue, paper, glue" and the results are stunning! We can't show you yet though because these masterpieces are your holiday presents from the kids… so here's a censored preview:

Finally, we used our sense of taste to enjoy yummy snacks from Hana's mom this week-- thank you Angela!

In Movement Class on Thursday we got to learn a new skill on our new tumbling mat, a gift from Zadia's great-grandparents from the wish list! Many thanks to Nana and Papa! We learned forward rolls!

In preparation for next Friday's toy drive, today we decorated another "mitzvah box" to fill with toy donations for next week.

We did all of that and still found time for building…

and drawing…

and dancing…

and playing "subway platform" (this is a common dramatic play activity in our classroom)…

and finally, enjoying some Legos with friends!

Have a great weekend! :)
