Pancakes, Pancakes and a blue horse!

On Tuesday we faked our way through some faux Irish dancing to acknowledge St. Patrick's Day. Here are some fun shots of the kids doing a silly dance I made up called "Jig jiggy jig jiggy jiggy." They are now ready to audition for Riverdance!

Speaking of dance, on Tuesday we were also reunited with our old friend Howard B. Wigglebottom. In Fall we read the book about Howard learning to be a good listener, and this week we read the next book in the series that teaches about listening to your own heart and following your own passions even if they are not "cool" to your friends or peers. Each child had a turn to say something that makes their own heart happy and we made self-portrait projects that identified their ideas.

Our little wiggle bottom kids practiced hopping on one foot and forward rolling down the incline mat this week in Movement. Their balancing skills and ability to articulate movement is coming along nicely!

Friday was My Favorite Color Day!
During Circle Time each student popped up to show their outfit and sing out their favorite color. Fun!

Friday was also very special and we celebrated Emmett's 4th birthday.
He looks very handsome in this crown!

After we sang Emmett the Choosy birthday song he got to pick the dancing song and went for "Freeze Dance." He loves to laugh at the chorus lyrics when they sing "shake your booty!"

We shaked and jumped and twirled and clapped and stomped too!

We also sang Emmett the traditional Happy Birthday song and helped him to make a wish and blow out his "finger candle."

We read two more Eric Carle books this week: Pancakes, Pancakes! which led us to create a cool sequencing recipe for making pancakes the old fashioned way, and The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse that encouraged us to use our imaginations and explore color. We enjoyed painting our own horses many colors as well!

This was a very fun week and a great way to start the season of Spring!

Have a great weekend and see you next week!
